Gift Ban
Gift Ban
Legislators should be responsive to the will of the people — not gift-giving lobbyists.
In Pennsylvania, lobbyists can legally bribe legislators.
There are no limits on how much lobbyists can “gift” public officials in Pennsylvania.
Millions of dollars
are unreported
every year.
Gifts valued at over $250 or travel, lodging, and hospitality greater than $650 must be reported by legislators…
but even that isn’t enforced.
The Gift Ban
would change that.
A commonsense Gift Ban bill will forbid lobbyists from bribing our public officials, while providing for commonsense exceptions (like gifts from family members) and low-value items (like a bottle of water.)
CALL LEADERSHIP
Does your lawmaker pledge to pass the Gift Ban this session?
We are asking every legislator to sign a simple pledge that says they will pass the Gift Ban and prioritize the interests of Pennsylvanians over the influence of big money donors.
The maps below show the legislators who have signed the pledge so far, and cosponsors of the Gift Ban bills introduced this session.
If you are a legislator you can read and download the pledge here, and email it to us at info@mohpa.org.
THE GIFT BAN TOOLKIT
TAKE ACTION FOR THE GIFT BAN
No town halls? No replies? We're going to Harrisburg and confronting Legislators face-to-face.
As the corporate takeover continues to worsen at the federal level, we need to do our part here in Pennsylvania and get money out of politics. Leaders in Harrisburg need to pass a commonsense Gift Ban that 47 other states already have.
We're going to send a message to both Democrat and GOP leadership that we are not giving up our fight to convince our state government to do the right thing: take a stand against corruption and Pass a Gift Ban.
