“Stop Blocking the Gift Ban”: PA Faith Leaders Bring the Fight to Bradford’s Door

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — On an overcast day with promises of storms, Faith Leaders of MarchOnHarrisburg and the PA Poor People’s Campaign came together, once again, to deliver a stern rebuke.

The message: stop blocking the Gift Ban bill!

Using song as a powerful form of resistance, they raised their voices against the immoral legal bribery that has corrupted the soul of the PA State legislature. The lyrics to Rich Man’s House perfectly illustrated the spirit of why the Gift Ban bill must be pushed forward now.

We went down to the rich man’s house

And we took back what he stole from me

Took back our dignity, took back our humanity

A Reading of Rebuke

800 people a day are dying from poverty in the richest country in the history of the world.
— The People's Letter

MarchOnHarrisburg went down to Rep. Matt Bradford’s office where an aide explained he would never be present at those local offices - the buildings meant only for constituent complaints. So, the Faith Leaders took turns reading from their own letter of complaint.

“800 people a day are dying from poverty in the richest country in the history of the world. We suffer from a rigged and unaffordable economy…”

As they read on, in solidarity, the letter exposed the moral decay of the PA State Legislature, outlining why the Gift Ban bill is needed and wanted by all constituents.

“We are capable of doing great things, and we have done so before… Democracy must be responsive to the people, not to whoever has the most money.” The letter continued.

It is up to all of us to join the fight. Call Matt Bradford and demand action of the Gift Ban bill. Demand more for your neighbors, yourselves and for a thriving future for all.

MarchOnHarrisburg Faith Leaders gathered in preparation for Thursday morning’s action.
