Meeting people where they are: door knocking about Data Centers

Big Tech is racing to build out data centers in order to cement their wealth and power far, far into the future. Across Pennsylvania, this rapid growth is being built with public handouts, even as data center expansion is increasing utility rates, draining valuable water resources, and polluting our air—without even providing very many jobs.

These conditions are NOT inevitable; people all across the U.S. and the world have been successfully stopping projects. One source estimates that local pushback cost data center developers $98 billion in stalled projects in just one quarter of 2025.

“While doing this work, I’ve learned just how hard it is to engage people in a world where online isolation, fear, and apathy is the norm. So while the country I’ve been born into tries to curl up in the face of political intimidation, MoH has taught me that it is more important now than ever to build community. To resist. Knocking doors showed me that there is a way to cut through the fear. Talking to each other, face-to-face, as neighbors. The conversations I had about corruption, politics, and people’s porch decorations gives me hope that we can counteract a world of digital isolation and overcome political corruption – together” — Patrick, Southeastern Pennsylvania

“Door knocking was fun and fulfilling! The key takeaway is that people aren't informed on what data centers are and those who did felt powerless without action. So we provided them action they can take and an invitation into our community! We did a great job tying in how it’s a result of money in politics and a government that serves money instead of us”. — Whitney, Southeastern PA

The Work Continues!

We need to keep building leaders who are situated in a broader movement that recognizes the long-term project of uniting the working class across broad lines of division, and creating a government and economy that that serves people, not profit.

We also need this organized network to be steeled in how to base-build for the long term, not just mobilize in the short term!

This is an opportunity to develop long-term movement leaders, and we are doing so as MarchOnHarrisburg, alongside countless partners across our Keystone State.

Forward Together! Not One Step Back!
